FARM & PLANTATION
In 2019 we acquired a vineyard near Yecla in the Province of Murcia, in South East Spain. The vineyard covered 152 Hectares and was formerly owned by the large locally based, international wine group, Bodegas Castaño. It was an ideal target for TFE as it has all the requirements we look for in a black winter truffle plantation.
It had the right soil, a huge amount of sunshine hours, a secure and substantial water supply and although it was in the south of Spain, it was at altitude so could give us the cold but not sub-zero winter temperatures truffle needs. Being on a plateau, it was also a large mostly flat plain with mountain peaks all around offering a microclimate without too much extreme variation.
We took possession of the vineyard in November and have since been working very hard to remove the vines, prepare the soil for planting, get the irrigation system up and running to our needs, install a nursery, bring all our plants down ready for planting this year and get planting and all other associated works a large truffle farm will need carried out to get established.
The videos below will walk you through all of this activity and we hope you enjoy them. More pictures and videos will be added as work and time progress.
